Part of the challenge of determining the routing resilience of the Internet is the difficulty in getting an accurate understanding of the actual routing infrastructure. Several groups have measurement efforts underway:
- BGPMon – monitors BGP updates and routing tables
- CAIDA’s AS Rank – provides size rankings of networks (Autonomous Systems or “AS”s)
- CIDR Report – statistics related to size of routing table, changes to routes, bogons and more
- University of Oregon Route Views Project
Additionally, there are several projects undertaking large-scale Internet measurement that are actively seeking additional participants:
- CAIDA’s Archipelago (Ark) Measurement Infrastructure
- RIPE NCC’s Atlas network
