Abiyot Bayou Tehone, PhD, is a distinguished Senior Advisor to the Minister of Innovation and Technology in Ethiopia. In addition to his advisory role, he serves as a Data and Governance System Advisor for the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change. He earned his PhD in ICT Management from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and has completed executive education programs at Harvard Kennedy School and the Digital Frontiers Institute. Dr. Abiyot is also a Certified Digital Finance Professional.

Dan York serves the Internet Society as a Senior Advisor, focusing on helping explain the changes happening to the Internet and how we use it. He assists the Internet Society’s CEO with communications, documenting Internet shutdowns, assisting with our Amicus project, and exploring how we make the Internet more resilient. Prof. Meoli Kashorda

Prof Meoli Kashorda is currently the Executive Director of Kenya Education Network (KENET), the National Research and Education Network (NREN) of Kenya. In the last 15 years, he has been leading the development of a resilient and high-speed academic network of Kenya that connects over 500 campuses, 60% on last mile fiber at speeds of 1 Gb/s or 10 Gb/s. He has also been committed to capacity building of high-end engineering talent pipeline required to build and operate a dedicated academic network and the associated campus networks. Since 2006, Prof Kashorda has been the principal investigator for a research project measuring the e-readiness of universities in Kenya and East Africa based on 17 indicators that include campus indicators of Internet availability and affordability. He has previously served as the Chair of the Board of Directors of Kenya Network Information Center (KENIC), the not-for-profit company that administers the dot ke domain names registry. He holds a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Nairobi and a PhD in Electronic Systems Engineering from University of Essex in England. Samrawit Fikru is an Ethiopian computer scientist, entrepreneur, and founder of Hybrid Designs, the software company behind “Ride,” Ethiopia’s leading ride-sharing app. Launched in 2014, “Ride” has transformed the transport sector, growing from an SMS-based service to a mobile app with over 5 million users, 70,000 drivers, and operations in Addis Ababa and Djibouti.
Samrawit earned a diploma in software engineering from Microlink Information Technology College and a degree in computer science from HiLCoE School of Computer Science and Technology. Inspired by her own challenges with transportation, she created “Ride” to provide safe, reliable, and affordable services, empowering many, including women who make up 90% of its development team.
Beyond transportation, Samrawit expanded into food delivery through “Ride Food” and business logistics via “Ride Business.” In 2022, she launched “Sewasew,” a music streaming platform for Ethiopian artists. Recognized for her innovation, she was named one of the BBC 100 Women of 2022 and included in the 100 Global Tech Change Makerslist.

Currently he is serving as President for ICT-ET, a private sector association for ICT companies in Ethiopia. He was also the Founding Curator of Addis Global Shapers Hub, a World Economic Forum Initiative, and holds an MBA from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering and Mathematics from Richmond, The American International University in London.
