Connectivity Co-funding Initiative

We believe the Internet is a resource that enriches people’s lives and is a force for good in society. But billions of people around the world do not have access to it and the opportunities it brings.

This is why we’ve created the Connectivity Co-funding Initiative—to help reach our goal of ensuring that people everywhere have access to affordable, reliable, and resilient Internet.

Over the next five years, the Internet Society and the Internet Society Foundation are investing in connectivity-focused initiatives and seeking to partner with other organizations that believe in the positive impact of the Internet reaching everyone.

What the Connectivity Co-funding Initiative Will Support

The Connectivity Co-funding Initiative will focus on supporting marginalized and underserved populations. In alignment with our 2030 Strategy, it will fund work that promotes community-centered connectivity and makes access affordable and resilient. This work can include:

  • Supporting infrastructure deployment and training communities to manage their own networks.
  • Connecting communities bypassed by commercial Internet service providers.
  • Training programs to build technical capacity, empower marginalized groups, and develop the next generation of Internet leaders.
  • Building and strengthening last-mile community-centered connectivity solutions for people, businesses, schools, and health facilities in underserved areas.
  • Supporting locally owned networks that create jobs and foster entrepreneurship, retain value within communities, and promote self-reliance.
  • Increasing global impact by working with the Internet Society’s 130+ local chapters and 133,000+ members worldwide.

Co-funders Make a Difference

Together, we can do so much more. In support of the vision of a more equitable and connected world, co-funders, our community, and our partners help scale the impact of the work done by contributing to some or all of the programs covered by the Connectivity Co-funding Initiative. We will announce partners to our fund as our community grows.
