[Washington, D.C. and Geneva, Switzerland] – The Internet Society today announced that Maarten Botterman, Ingrid Srinath and Eric Burger have been appointed to the Public Interest Registry Board of Directors. Maarten Botterman was reappointed for a one-year term, Ingrid Srinath was reappointed for a three-year term and Eric Burger was appointed for a two-year term. These appointments will begin at the mid-year 2015 Public Interest Registry Board meeting.
Mr. Botterman, who is currently Chair of the Public Interest Registry Board and has served on the Board since 2008, is Director of GNKS Consult BV. He is an expert in Information Society policy issues, with an emphasis on the impact of technology on society and governance issues, and global information security and privacy. He is also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the NLnet Foundation, which is a Dutch charity with a mission to promote an open information society.
Ingrid Srinath joined the Public Interest Registry Board in 2013. She is CEO at Hivos India Advisory Services, an international development organization that works with local civil society organizations in developing countries to build a free, fair and sustainable world. She has served as Secretary General of CIVICUS – World Alliance for Citizen Participation and on the advisory boards of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United Nations Development Cooperation Forum (UN DCF), and the World Economic Forum (WEF).
New to the Public Interest Registry Board, Eric Burger is Research Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Security and Software Engineering Research Center at Georgetown University in Washington DC. Dr. Burger served on the Internet Society Board of Trustees as an Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) appointee from 2009-2015. He has 18 published RFCs (Request for Comments), the official documents of Internet specifications, communications protocols, and procedures. Dr. Burger also holds 17 published patents in the United States with several pending, holds additional patents in other countries, and has been widely published in technical and standards publications.
Outgoing director Erik Huizer has served three multiple-year terms on the Public Interest Registry Board since 2006. Mr. Huizer is CTO at SURFnet, the National Education and Research Network provider in the Netherlands, and he is also part-time professor Internet Applications at University of Utrecht. In 2014, he was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame for his contributions to the Internet standards process. Mr. Huizer continues as chairman of the board of Enset, which was created in 2015 by the Public Interest Registry. Enset’s mission as the only non-profit domain registrar is to support other Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and nonprofits around the world by acting as a trusted provider of online services.
