About
Today, we are envisioning smart cities that will manage transportation, water, infrastructure, energy and environment systems via the Internet. Smart homes that will automatically adjust the room temperatures, lighting, or even play music based on personalized preferences. By the year 2020, number of connected devices (Internet of Things; IoT) are estimated to be 38.5 billion, up from 13.4 billion in 2015 – an increase of 285% (Source: Juniper Research). South Korean mobile carrier SK Telecom recently launched a Low-Power Wide-Area Network (LPWAN), what is known to be the world’s first nationwide network exclusively for IoT services.
As we enter into a more connected world, our life experiences will change. Operating across host of industries, the “Internet of Things” are projected to bring huge improvements, efficiencies and opportunities. However, there is a fear that it might come at the expense of personal privacy and data security. Discussions are now taking place on technology, legal, regulatory and societal issues of the “Internet of Things”.
The Internet Society’s (ISOC) Asia Internet Symposium Bangkok will bring together experts to discuss:
- How Thailand is getting ready for IoT?
- How IoT will support emerging economies, innovation and business opportunities?
- Privacy and Security in a connected world?
- How IoT will transform societies and their behavior?
