The Community Network Exchange event serves as a platform to promote the creation and growth of Community Networks, increase collaboration between community network operators in the region, and provide an opportunity for them to engage with other stakeholders including content producers, regulators, and policymakers.
Taking the recommendations last year, CNX 2019 looked at how ‘Community Networks’ as a technological alternative with an independent infrastructure can be looked at as an alternative to the Internet for people’s communications system. The theme of CNX 2019 will be “Can Community Networks become Internet of People!”
The first edition of CNX identified synergies between community networks and community radios. As community radios work within a community, they understand the local scenarios and are able to produce content that is relevant to the community they operate in.
The theme of the second CNX 2018 was ‘Synergies Between Community Networks and Community Radios in Promoting Public Wi-Fi Access in Asia Pacific Countries’ and saw representation from nine countries in Asia Pacific, and more than 30 Community Network providers, community radio stations and practitioners across India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Argentina, and South Africa.
Local action. Global change.
