G20 leaders bring people to the centre of the digital future
Leaders of the most powerful economies in the world met in Osaka, Japan on 29-30 June 2019 for the G20 Summit to discuss key topics such as the Internet and its impact on our lives and our future.
G20 leaders continue to face an important challenge on how to fully embrace innovation and new technologies, while at the same time, ensuring security of their citizens. Last year, over 100 organisations came together with an Open Letter to inspire the world to help build up trust in the digital age. For the digital society to be open, secure, and empowering for everyone, policies for the digital age must put the interests of people first. It can only be achieved by collective responsibility and collaboration.
This year, the G20 leaders reaffirmed their commitment to work together to foster global economic growth by harnessing the power of technological innovation and its application for the benefit of all. In addition, these world leaders issued a side statement reaffirming their commitment to ensuring the security of their citizens, and urged states, international organisations, industry, and civil society actors to take action and help build trust in the Internet.
