[Washington, D.C. and Geneva, Switzerland, 09 November 2011] — The Internet Society today announced that 26 skilled technologists from 17 countries were selected to receive fellowships to attend the two upcoming Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) meetings. The IETF, the world’s premier Internet standards development organization, will host its next meetings 13-18 November 2011 in Taipei, Taiwan and 25-30 March 2012 in Paris, France.
As part of its longstanding commitment to support technical leadership capacity building in developing and emerging economies, the Internet Society’s Fellowship programme enables more technologists from these regions to participate in the IETF meetings. The Fellowships are awarded through the Internet Society’s Next Generation Leaders Programme, designed to prepare professionals from around the world to become the next generation of Internet technology, policy, and business leaders.

The Internet Society is deeply committed to providing these Fellows with the opportunity to take part in IETF work and to network with those who have similar technical interests.”
The Internet Society IETF Fellowship covers the cost of attending an IETF meeting for the selected Fellows and pairs each with an IETF veteran who serves as their meeting mentor.
The latest round of Internet Society Fellowships to the IETF garnered more than 250 applications from 76 countries.

IETF 82, Taipei, Taiwan:
Dr. Syed Faisal Hasan (Bangladesh) is an assistant professor of Computer Science at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Dr. Faisal’s research interest is in congestion control for multimedia applications, distributed social networks, and embedded systems. He is interested in joining the TCPM, PPSP, and CONEXT working groups at the IETF 82. Currently, he is the president of ISOC Bangladesh Dhaka Chapter.
Rajabu Kitindi (Tanzania) is a PS core Network Manager at Vodacom Tanzania Limited, responsible for Packet Switched Core Network, ISP, and Core Data Network functions. He is actively involved in IPv6 deployment and Transitioning strategies within Vodafone Groups and Vodanet Global ASN strategy implementation. His interests are in IPv4, IPv6, BGP, MPLS, and Wireless Technologies (WiMAX 802.16E & 3GPP).
Lebohang Ramaisa (Lesotho) is an IT and IAP Manager ETL (Econet Telecom Lesotho) Lesotho. He is responsible for and leads a team that supports the IP network layer of the Mobile/Fixed Network in Lesotho. He is interested in IETF working groups IPv6 Ops and DNS Extensions.
Muhammad Maaz Rehan (Pakistan) is a PhD student ofM.A.JinnahUniversity,Islamabadand an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, WAH CANTT. His research interests include: Investigation of IEEE 802.21 MIH, Cross-layer Vertical Handovers, QoS Routing & Load Balancing in MANET using Bio-Inspired techniques (like Ant-Colony & Particle Swarm), and MPLS.
Peer Azmat Shah (Pakistan) is a Research Scholar in CoReNeT research group at M. A. Jinnah University Islamabad, Pakistan. He is also working as a Faculty member in CS department at COMSATS, Pakistan. His research interests are mobility management in 4G heterogeneous wireless networks, bandwidth aggregation, multipath routing, and wireless mesh networks.
Chinthaka Wasantha (Sri Lanka) is a M.Eng. (ICT) degree holder from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, and Lecturer at South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine, Sri Lanka. Mr. Chinthaka’s research interests include routing, switching, Internet, QoS, and multicasting.
IETF 83, Paris, France:
Kaveer Harie (South Africa) is a Bcom graduate from University of Witwatersrand, Senior Network Engineer at Internet Solutions. Interests include data center architecture, network architectures, and metro and broadband services focused on performance.
Dwi Simanungkalit (Indonesia) is a Master student of Public Policy at University of Massachusetts, US. She works as an e-service application officer at the Ministry of ICT of Indonesia. She was involved in drafting regulations relating to Internet resources in Indonesia especially the ccTLD “.id”. She is interested in IETF working groups to learn more about Internet resources management, which will be the theme of her thesis.
Asad Ul Islam (Pakistan) is a Senior Engineer (Technology Development) at Cyber Internet Services Pvt Ltd. He works in the areas of Routing & Switching in Service Provider networks. He is interested in IETF working groups related to Multi Protocol Label Switching, Inter-Domain Routing, and IPv6.
Thiago Marinello (Brazil) is a MSc Student at State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and Engineer for Padtec S/A,Brazil. He works in the areas of optical networks, distributed systems, and embedded software. He is interested in IETF working groups ccamp, trill, and 6lowpan.
Elizabeth N. Onwuka, PhD (Nigeria) is the Acting Dean of the School of Information and Communications Technology (SICT), and the Head of Department of Communications Engineering, Federal University of Technology Minna, Nigeria. She is interested in IP network architecture, mobility management, and resource management in wireless networking.
Madeeha Rehman (Pakistan) works as a solution architect in Nexus Telcom, Pakistan. Her work primarily includes design and deployment of network monitoring, management, and mediation solutions for 2G and 3G wireless networks. Prior to this, she has worked as a WiMAX CPE Interoperability testing engineer in Wi-tribe Pakistan. Her areas of interest include transition from IPv4 to IPv6, and Wireless technologies, including WiMAX, HSPA, and LTE.
Usman Sarwar (Pakistan) is a Senior Researcher (R&D) at MIMOS Berhad (Malaysian Institute of Micro-Electronics), Malaysia. He works in the areas of IoT architecture, network layer communication, and security protocols for 6LoWPAN technology. He also works on application integration for different use-cases using the same technologies. He is interested in IETF working groups 6lowpan, v6ops and mext.
The Internet Society selected twelve previous Fellows to receive the Returning Fellows award, which allows these returning participants to leverage their initial IETF experience and provide additional contributions into the IETF standards processes. The support of these returners also ensures their ongoing engagement in standards tracks that have important implications for regional Internet growth and evolution, and increases the visibility of the IETF in developing and emerging economies.
