Event to address cyber security trends and threats, as well as policy and social implications
[Jakarta, Indonesia] The Internet Society (ISOC) is holding its first Asia Internet Symposium (AIS) in Jakarta, Indonesia on 07 September. Hosted by the ISOC Jakarta Chapter, the event will bring together experts from the government, private sector, technical community and civil society to discuss the unfolding cyber security landscape in Indonesia.
“Increased connectivity to the Internet and interconnectivity of devices are crucial for emerging countries that aspire to use ICTs for socio-economic growth—but in today’s environment, these inevitably come with certain risks,” says Rajnesh Singh, Regional Bureau Director for Asia-Pacific at the Internet Society. “It is important that we explore all avenues to manage and minimise these risks collaboratively and locally, and in ways that will not impair the open and global nature of the Internet, as well as its value to our everyday lives.”
Indonesia, one of the fastest growing online markets in Asia-Pacific, has not been immune to online threats. The Indonesia Security Incident Response Team on Internet Infrastructure (IDSIRTII) has noted an increase in the amount of malware in Indonesia, mainly targeting online banking. According to the red24 Threat Forecast, Indonesia has one of the highest rates of botnet activity in Southeast Asia. The Indonesian government is currently deliberating the creation of a national cyber security agency to bolster its cyber defense mechanisms.
The Asia Internet Symposium in Jakarta will focus on identifying the relevant stakeholders, local and international frameworks, and policy and social implications of online security threats in Indonesia. Expected participants include government officials, industry analysts, law enforcement professionals, academics and end-users.
The Internet Society’s Asia Internet Symposium series aims to tackle specific Internet issues of relevance to local stakeholders, and has been held in various cities around Asia.
The event will be streamed live from 12.00 – 17.30 local time (UTC +7). Please follow this link to view the full agenda.
