Washington, DC- 13 March 2017 — The Internet Society today announced that Jeffrey Bedser has been appointed to the Public Interest Registry (PIR) Board of Directors. He will serve a term of three years as will returning board member Eric Burger. Hartmut Glaser is also a returning board member who will serve a term of one year. These appointments will begin at a PIR Board retreat scheduled next month.
Jeffrey Bedser is an entrepreneur with extensive private and public sector experience. He is the Chief Executive Officer of the iThreat Cyber Group and has spent decades building technology, services and solutions to combat Internet abuse and crime. Mr. Bedser is a member of the Security and Stability Advisory Council for ICANN (Internet Corporate for Assigned Names and Numbers) and serves on the Editorial Board of the Security Journal.
Returning PIR board member Eric Burger is Director of the NSF Security and Software Engineering Research Center (S2ERC) at Georgetown University. His career in technology includes roles as Chief Technology Officer at Neustar and Vice President of Engineering at BEA Systems. He has held board seats for numerous companies that have had exits, and is currently serving as a board member to two stealth startups, one in the cyber security space and one in the luxury technology space.
Hartmut Glaser is Executive Director of the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br). The committee coordinates and integrates all Internet services in Brazil and promotes technical quality, innovation and use of the Internet in Brazil. He also serves on the board of the Latin American and Caribbean Internet Addresses Registry.
Outgoing board member Art Reilly served on the PIR Board for two terms from 2011 to 2017. Mr. Reilly has promoted a more-inclusive Information Society and improving interoperability and quality in networks through standards for more than 25 years. He retired in April 2011 as Senior Director, Strategic Technology Policy at Cisco Systems where he was the principal representative to the International Telecommunications Union and many other UN activities on policy matters.

Effective as of its April 2017 meeting, the Public Interest Registry Board Members will be:
- Roberto Gaetano, retired from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
- Eric Burger, Research Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Security and Software Engineering Research Center at Georgetown University
- Jeffrey Bedser, CEO of iThreat Cyber Group
- Hartmut Glaser, Executive Secretary of the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee
- Ingrid Srinath, CEO at Hivos India Advisory Services
- Tosca Bruno-van Vijfeijken, Director of the Transnational NGO Initiative at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University
- Lise Fuhr, Director General of the European Telecommunications Network Operators Association
- Kathy Brown, serves as liaison to the Public Interest Registry Board in her capacity as President and CEO of the Internet Society
