The High Level Panel on Global Internet Cooperation and Governance Mechanisms

Statement from Kathy Brown on the High Level Panel on Global Internet Cooperation and Governance Mechanisms:

The High Level Panel on Global Internet Cooperation and Governance Mechanisms held its final meeting in Dubai on May 4-5. The Dubai meeting was the third in a series that began in London in December 2013 and was followed by a meeting in California in February this year. A diverse group of panelists were drawn from civil society, the technical community, the private sector and International organizations. Lynn St. Amour served on the first panel followed by my participation on the subsequent panels. Sally Wentworth participated as an expert as well. The High Level Panel’s objectives were to focus on the issue of Internet Governance whereby the discussions would culminate in a high-level report. The aspiration for a truly multistakeholder process and the commitment to sharing and openness were realized by the panel. The outcome of six months of stakeholder engagement and collaboration is reflected in the final report (attached).
