2026-2027 Special Interest Group Topic Selection Process

The Internet Society is now accepting topic proposals for the 2026-2027 cycle of Special Interest Groups (SIGs)—so now is the perfect time to get your voice heard.

SIGs are open to Internet Society members and offer an opportunity to collaborate on topics and themes to advance the Internet Society’s vision and mission.

Here’s how it works:

  1. From 1 May 2025: Join the SIG Topic Open Community on the community portal and propose your topic idea.
  2. Collaborate and share topic ideas with other interested Internet Society members and form a leadership team (Lead Facilitator, Facilitator, Secretary, Board Member(s)). Please see the SIG Guidelines document for the required leadership positions and their descriptions.
  3. With your leadership team, complete the Topic Proposal Template and submit by 31 August 2025.
  4. Teams can participate in two question-and-answer sessions on 25 September and 16 October 2025, during which your topic leadership team provides an overview of the topic, campaigns for support and answers questions regarding your proposals with the Internet Society community.
  5. Vote! All Internet Society members are eligible to vote for their top five topics during the voting period, which runs from 17 to 31 October 2025. The five topics with the most votes will become the 2026-2027 SIGs and will be announced on 5 November 2025.
