Roxana Bassi is an accomplished IT and Telecommunications Engineer with a 35-year career dedicated to ICT for development. As an Argentinean national, she has navigated diverse roles in the private, academic, UN, NGO, and public sectors, and collaborating with international organizations worldwide.
Roxana's expertise centers on advancing Knowledge Societies (ICT4D) through her extensive background in IT policy development, technical infrastructure planning, and overseeing large-scale deployments. With a track record of managing technical teams and providing strategic advice to governments in over 30 countries, including post-disaster and post-conflict scenarios like Afghanistan, Rwanda and Haiti, she brings a multi-cultural and multi-dimensional perspective, placing human impact at the forefront of her work.
Currently, Roxana serves as the leader of the technical area at the Association for Progressive Communications (APC), a globally recognized NGO operating at the intersection of human rights and technology. Concurrently, for the past six years, she has contributed as an expert evaluator of IT innovation projects in Europe, assessing proposals under the EU's EIC Accelerator grants for SMEs.
In the previous year, Roxana was honored as an Internet Society mid-career fellow, showcasing her commitment to promoting a free, open, and trustworthy internet. With a career spanning the evolution of telecommunications technologies, she is deeply concerned about the future of the Internet and laments the departure from the pioneering spirit of its early days. Roxana is particularly passionate about connecting the unconnected in the global south, fostering increased women's participation in online spaces, and ensuring the internet remains a safe environment for all. She aspires to channel her wealth of experience, expertise, and innovative ideas to serve the Internet community as a member of Internet Society's Board of Trustees.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Roxana enjoys disconnecting from the digital realm to engage in offline activities such as hiking, sailing, diving, and gardening.
